Friends of the Norris Center Members Reception at the Norris Center on the UCSC campus
You’re invited to the Friends’ annual spring social at the Norris Center for Natural History on the UCSC campus. We welcome you to join us as we:
- Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Norris Center natural history collections
- Meet and hear from Norris Center staff director Chris Lay and faculty co-directors Karolina Karlic and Ingrid Parker
- Hear a review of the Friends of the Norris Center activities and upcoming natural history events
- Vote on the slate of Norris Center Friends’ Board officers (email us at FNC@ucsc.edu if interested in serving on the Board)
- Enjoy light refreshments and get to know each other
At 3 pm, there will be optional student-guided walks of the campus’s natural reserve, starting from the Norris Center. Family and friends welcome.
Free parking available at the Core West parking garage, a short walk from the Norris Center (see map). RSVP to fnc@ucsc.edu.

Bird Banding Station Visit at the Younger Lagoon Reserve
UCSC Coastal Science Campus, Long Marine Lab
Get up close and personal with birds! Join us at the Younger Lagoon Reserve on UCSC’s Coastal Science Campus (Long Marine Lab) to observe bird banding in action. Each week, a group of student interns, YLR staff, and volunteers run a bird banding station to assess the impacts of habitat restoration efforts on the YLR’s bird populations. This is a unique opportunity to observe birds in hand and learn about this ongoing project.

Friends of the Norris Center members' tour of the Bickford House/Año Nuevo UC Natural Reserve
Please note: due to rain this event originally scheduled for April 13 will be rescheduled - stay tuned for the new date
Join us for this special visit to the UC Reserve at Año Nuevo. We’ll get good views of elephant seals, learn about current research at the reserve, and get a tour of the Bickford House facility. We’ll meet in the morning to carpool to the Reserve as vehicle access is limited by parking capacity and the need for high ground clearance to navigate road damage from winter rains. This event is free but open only to Friends of the Norris Center members and their families. Upon registration we'll send parking information and other details.
